    Surface Chemistry Research and Development Scientist

    Molecular Sensing is seeking an experienced, research scientist with substantial expertise in the development of surface chemistries for bioanalytical assays.

    Requirements: The successful candidate will: investigate new surface chemistries for applications in Back-Scattering Interferometry technology; optimize assay and surface chemistry to develop and implement new products; develop robust methods of manufacturing new products in collaboration with Process Engineering and Manufacturing personnel; work with QC personnel to develop and implement QC procedures and specifications; document manufacturing and QC procedures; and trouble-shoot problems in manufacturing and customer sites when needed.

    Qualifications: This position requires a PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in surface modification and synthetic polymer chemistry. A solid understanding of biological macromolecule immobilization coupled with a significant research record is a must. Experience in protein separations and/or biosensors highly desired. Experience using the following analytical technologies is required: contact angle determination, ellipsometry, AFM, fluorescence microscopy, field contrast and light field microscopy, SEM, liquid and solid state FTIR, NMR, SIMS, and ESCA / XPS. Previous experience in biotechnology product development is preferred. Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills is a must. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to create and release new products in a time and cost efficient manner.

    Applied Research Scientist

    Molecular Sensing is seeking an experienced, assay and applications development laboratory scientist to work with our research & development, sales, and marketing teams.

    Requirements: The successful candidate will: design, develop, and perform bioanalytical assays in the area of protein and molecular biology. Work with marketing personnel to run customer samples, assist in the generation of product applications literature, selling tools, and training tools. Contribute to the creation of intellectual property and technical know-how. Interface with design scientists and engineers on application concerns for product development. Work with R&D on product development and workflows/protocols. Work with R&D personnel to benchmark competitive technologies and products and to create product test suites and performance standards. Work with chemistry R&D personnel to support array research and development activities. Work cooperatively with company clients to analyze samples as part of the company’s early access program. Demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism while interacting with company cliental, as well as an innate ability to establish, manage, and maintain client-company rapport.

    Qualifications: This position requires a MS or preferentially a PhD degree in a relevant biological discipline (microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry), a minimum of 5 years (Masters) or 3 years (PhD) work experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry or academia. Familiarity with translational research and with proteomics and/or genomics is a plus. Experience in the design and performance of biological assays using the following techniques: Western Blots, cell-based assays ELISA, Immunoassays, Surface Plasmon Resonance Assays, and Fluorescence based assays. Relevant experience in assay development/qualification/validation is requested. Acknowledged capabilities in creative, early stage assay development are a plus. Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills, as well as the ability to work as an effective and efficient team member is a must. Strong experimental design and analytical skills capabilities are required. The successful candidate must be a self-motivated scientist, with demonstrated enthusiasm and curiosity in his/her scientific work.
